The Brazilian Armada dominated Round 1 of the Oi Rio Pro 2016, held at Grumari Beach, in Brazil. Seven Championship Tour (CT) surfers – – Owen Wright, Bede Durbidge, Kai Otton, Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Taj Burrow, and Joel Parkinson – are not competing in Rio de Janeiro. As a result, the event is less attractive for fans. However, it doesn’t mean the Oi Rio Pro has lost intensity. Five Brazilians surfers earned a ticket to Round 3. Filipe Toledo was the first winner of the day. The young aerialist sent Kanoa Igarashi and Dusty Payne to the repechage heat.
