The world-class surf spot of Punta de Lobos, in Chile, has earned a three-month construction freeze, halting a huge development along the country’s most famous left-hand point. Save The Waves Coalition and the local group Comité Defensa Punta de Lobos have taken an additional step to protect this beautiful, raw coastline from the recent onslaught of proposed residential and commercial development that will disrupt its natural state. “It took a lot of strategizing and work to pull this off and we are encouraged by this initial success. The next steps are to quickly put a series of actions into place, during this temporary freeze, to help us secure the legal, long-term protection of Punta de Lobos,” explains Nick Mucha, from Save The Waves Coalition.
