The competition attracted riders from all over the country and crowned the national champions. The final day had chest-high waves and glorious weather. Peter Devries, six-time Rip Curl Pro Tofino champion, encountered Californian Kevin Schulz in the ultimate showdown. The decisive heat had great performances from both sides. Devries’ last-minute heroics was not enough to dethrone Schulz.
