Billy Stairmand has done it again. The surfer from Raglan claimed his third consecutive national title at the 2016 Billabong National Surfing Championships, held at Clair Beach, Dunedin, in New Zealand. Despite the onshore breeze, the event’s finals got underway, and Stairmand rapidly took control of the decisive clash. Billy rode two waves in the excellent range – a 9.13 and a 9.03 – and won his fifth national trophy. “Starting the year off with a win is always good and to have my name on that trophy with all those amazing surfers like Al Byrne, Wayne Parkes, Iain Buchanan, Maz and Jay Quinn is crazy. I am stoked to win any day, but Nationals is always amazing,” explained Stairmand.
