A pumping southwest and northwest swell combo delivered great surfing conditions with shoulder to overhead peaks for the grand finale of the NSSA Southwest Conference, at the southside of the Huntington Beach Pier. Taylor Clark took his fifth victory of the season with a powerful, progressive surfing performance on southside. Clark’s consistent and dominant surfing throughout the season secured him the 2011/12 Southwest Open Men’s conference crown, one of the most recognized and celebrated honors in the NSSA. Kulia Doherty dominated the Open Womens division winning by her sixth event of the season, while easily clinching the conference title. Griffin Colapinto put on a super impressive surfing display on southside nailing his third season victory in the Juniors and securing the conference title. Colapinto also earned his third runner up showing this season in the premier Open Mens division. John Mel put on a super heat in his Open Boys quarterfinal posting the highest combined total of the event (18.93) with two wave scores of 9.93 and a 9.00. Mel also claimed his fifth Open Boys victory of the season and handily secured the conference title.
