The Portuguese town of Peniche has approved the initial plans for the construction of an artificial wave pool. António José Correia, the iconic mayor of Peniche, has given green light for a theme park that will be installed within city limits, only 500 meters (0.3 miles) away from the Baleal surf breaks. The local authorities and the surf pool promoter are working to get all the necessary authorizations and environmental go-ahead, in order to make an official announcement.
