Mark Patterson, the creator of the original Surfing Madonna mosaic in Encinitas, has announced similar sister Surfing Madonna art installations in or near the world’s most dangerous wave sites. The Surfing Madonna Oceans Project (SMOP) has gone global, bringing its oceans environmental awareness campaign to the world’s top ten big wave surfing sites, starting with California’s Pebble Beach/Moonlight Bay region. “Through that raised awareness, we hope the Surfing Madonna mosaic will help inspire people to re-think their actions and understand their role as powerful agents of change”, explains Mark Patterson.
