The Walvis Bay Speed Week is returning to Namibia, in 2012, and promises to be the best natural speed sailing event venue in the world. The speed sailing challenge is being staged by the legendary Hennie Bredenkamp and will run from the 23rd-29th September. Winners will also be awarded the title of African Speed Windsurfing champions. The demand for an event at this iconic spot has become apparent over the last couple of years. With the fantastic marks recorded in Luderitz, the speed record chase has been well and truly taken away from Walvis Bay. Up to 80 competitors can be accommodated on the speedstrip at any time, at Walvis Bay, and windsurfers and kitesurfers can also compete at the same time.
