Girl power is in full force on the northern NSW coast this week, with the Wahu Surf Camp being run at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC).The 10 female junior surfers won the Under 14 divisions during the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps held across Australia during summer and were invited to the all-expenses paid training camp at the HPC.The girls’ camp, which wraps up today, finalises the 2015 Wahu Surf Camps, with the boys’ camp conducted last week. The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps is the only national competition series to fully cater for the micro groms from Under 8 through to Under 14 and consisted of 10 events across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.Attending the girls’ camps were: Bodhi Leigh-Jones (Avalon), Carly Shanahan (Wooli), Tru Starling (Collaroy), Emma Cattlin (Yallingup), Zahli Kelly (Wooloowin), Cedar Leigh-Jones (Avalon), Pacha Luque-Light (Tugun), Daisy Corbett (Phillip Island), Yasmin Hardy (Hallett Cove) and Nica Frayne (Mona Vale). The aspiring young surfers were put through their paces with a combination of surfing and video analysis, competition strategies and strength and gymnastic training. The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps have helped to launch the careers of many of Australia’s most promising junior surfers with more than 900 children taking part in the 2014/15 event series. For regular updates and happenings, become a fan of our Facebook page here.
